Almost from the very beginning, Woodenwidget has offered a tree planted for every set of plans sold and over the years that adds up to a fair few trees. We began planting in Scotland, then Madagascar and now Malawi in Africa. We are very proud of our tree planting efforts and thank you for helping to make it happen. We will currently plant 5 trees every time a set of plans is sold. 

Trees are fantastic, not least because you can make wonderful things from them but because they do so much else. They hold the soil together, convert CO2 into oxygen and filter the air for us. They offer shade and shelter for animals and birds and are lovely to look at.

This project in Malawi is a little different. These trees will mostly be cut down and used for firewood although some will be fruit trees which will feed the people in Malawi. It is important that there is an alternative for firewood in Africa as without it, people simply cut down the long standing indigenous trees which never grow back.

So we are very pleased to be working with the charity Ripple Africa who are doing stirling work in Malawi by offering a chance for the people to do something for themselves that benefits them without just being given hand outs. It's an intelligent and sustainable way of doing things.
